(*) Apple Computer’s STEVE JOBS JUST DIED! He passed away. He was a visionary who actually changed our lives over the past decades. I am sad even though it was expected over the years due to his pancreatic cancer battle.

GVO gogvo domain name is Problematic – Spam BlackList, Facebook blocks and More!

Filed Under: Advertising and Marketing, Branding, Business, Business Plan, entrepreneurial, Enttrepreurial, Faith Sloan, GVO, Online Marketing, Spam Blacklist, Technology, Web Conferencing, WEb Hosting    by: Faith Sloan

I created a nice video using GVO Video capability, uploaded it to my FaceBook site so my thousands of FB friends can see it. Posted it in some of the Facebook groups relevant to the topic of the video and decided to get some sleep.

I then awakened and one of my colleagues sent me this in FAcebook.

I am getting soooo over GVO. This includes their hosting service and their autoresponder and more.

When I send out messages to my list using the autoresponder, it says From ‘Joel Thieren’. Joel
owns GVO. I want my emails to say from ‘Faith Sloan’ for gosh sakes!

And when I send out emails from my many domains that are on a shared server, they fall in the spam buckets of the recipients. The IP address of the shared servers where my domains are hosted are in the Abuse/Spam Blacklist referenced by Comcast Cable, SBC, hotmail, yahoo, and moderate sized entities as well as small businesses. Shucks! Where is the value, folks? Where is the value?

We even changed my shared server to another shared server with a different IP address to no avail. Me thinks their block of IP Addresses have been blackballed.

And why don’t their GVO conferencing software have a component where folks can add their email address and subscribe to receive webinar notifications? So much for sending out invitations to my list. I guess I have to collect their names and email addresses into the GVO Autoresponder product and then I can blast out an email invitation that way. Unfortunately many of them won’t get the email since … well… you already heard my rant about the GVO spam blacklist problem.

Well, I just began porting over to Rackspace using their Cloud Technology and will be using SendGrid for emailing my lists. Still gotta find a web conferencing tool. Maybe I’ll just stick with gotomeeting/gotowebinar.

Sigh….

Thank You Guy Kawasaki for Sending Me A Copy Of Reality Check

Filed Under: Advertising and Marketing, Branding, Business, Business Plan, Charity, Christianity and Religion, entrepreneurial, Finance and Economy, Humor, Investments, Online Marketing, Ramblings, Social Networking, Technology, Welcome    by: Faith Sloan

First of all I would like to publicly thank Mr. Guy Kawasaki for sending me a free copy of his newest publication, “Reality Check”. I met ‘da man’ back in the late 90′s early 2000′s when I was living in the Bay Area. He was very much involved in the dot com ‘era’ (i use that term very lightly).

Guy Kawasaki is a long-time popular and respected author, blogger, entrepreneur and venture capitalist.

I even remembered when he started his early stage venture capital entity, Garage.com. I am currently plugging alltop.com for him because I believe it has tremendous value. Everything flashy doesn’t guarantee success and all that is with out the bells and whistles more times than not are where the gems of data as well as information are found.

Now, I do not agree with all of Guy’s tenets in terms of entrepreneurialship, Venture Capital funding approaches, business plan development, etc. But so what? I do agree with him on quite a bit and to top it off he has a great sense of humor.

With that said,  find me an individual who believes 100% of what another believes in and I’ll show you an unthinking clone without a spine.

Check out Guy’s video below. Guy, my man …  down with ‘schwag’! I am having flashbacks. Actually I wish I had kept all of my schwag. Schwag = branding and of course that is critical and effective. So oooook, schwag is da bomb!

I have yet to read the book as I am still taking my time reading and laughing through Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s “Fooled By Randomness – The Hidden Role of Chance in Life and in the Markets”. Many find the book rather dry and scientifically intellectual. I love it! It keeps me laughing and also causes me to critically think about my own approaches and philosophy in life and in business. I studied multivariate analysis, randomness, and probability and received my B.S. in the same, but it was never as entertaining as this book.

Oh, did I digress? I had a few random thoughts emanating from my gray matter. Sorry about that. Here is the video.

Call me brilliant as I don’t believe in working hard. But if you want to reward me for hard work for my brilliant ideas, and off the chart deliverables, then come on with it, she says! And yes, Guy, I am an unpaid evangelist! You got me there.

God Bless

FireFox Browser Usage Going Up, Up, Up!

Filed Under: Business, Technology    by: Faith Sloan

As written on MARKET SHARE,

For the first time since we began tracking, the Firefox browser has exceeded 20% share for a full month. Mozilla’s CEO, John Lilly, gives credit to the Mozilla community and shared his thoughts with us on this accomplishment:

“Reaching 20 percent worldwide market share is a significant milestone for Firefox and Mozilla. It’s a huge achievement by the global Mozilla community, one that just a few years ago most would have considered impossible. The open web is more vibrant than ever, and the thousands of Mozilla contributors around the world have played a major role in making it that way.”

Firefox share jumped about eight tenths of a percent in November, which is much higher than average. Why the big jump? In addition to the steady gains Firefox has shown over the years, our analysis shows three other major reasons:

# First, the U.S. election.usage share increased significantly in the days surrounding November 4th (especially in some non-U.S. countries, like Japan), then held roughly steady until:
# Second, the Thanksgiving holiday. Firefox share jumped starting on Wednesday the 26th until the end of the month.
# Third, extra weekend days. The average 30-day month has 8.57 weekend days. November had 10.

All three reasons increase Firefox share since Firefox has a much larger residential share than corporate share (to be detailed in a future analysis). So, all the above factors led to increased residential browsing and a higher Firefox share.

Even considering these factors, Firefox’s share trend is pointing to above 20% share for December and beyond.

Gmail Hack Found. Who’s Stealing Your Domain?

Gmail Hack: A Route to Domain Theft?

From: Mashable.com  November 23, 2008 – 5:03 pm PDT – by Paul Glazowski

Google’s Gmail service has lots prices of fans, but it may also be the cause of a number of domain name thefts in recent weeks.

Attacker Creates a Gmail Filter

According to a proof of concept by Geek Condition, there is a security flaw in Gmail that allows an attacker to forward GoDaddy account reset information to the offending party unbeknownst by the victim. This is done by creating a filter that forwards GoDaddy’s “change of password” mail to the attacker and deletes it from your inbox.

Such acts have been documented three times already this month.

How Your Account is Compromised

But surely in order to set up a Gmail filter and redirect your mail, the attacker needs your Gmail password? Not so, it would seem.

When setting up a filter for your mail, a request is sent to Google containing two key variables: a Unique Account Identifier, and a Session Authorization Key. The Unique Account Identifier never changes, and while the author of the proof declines to explain how it is obtained, he claims the answer can be found via a web search.

Meanwhile, the Session Authorization Key is found by directing a Gmail user to a page containing a malicious script: this grabs the cookie “GMAIL_AT” which includes the Session Authorization key. Once obtained, the required variables are entered into a hidden iframe to create a filter on your account. And…voila…your password reset mails are now being sent elsewhere.

The Fix

For Gmail users, Geek Condition suggests checking your Gmail account for filters you did not create, and (for Firefox users only) installing the NoScript addon.

The fix for Gmail? They might want to make the Session Authorization Key expire after every request, rather than every session.
