I don’t know if you heard, but, yes, Mrs Hillary Clinton is now the U.S. Secretary of State. Bill Clinton says that is the first time in a long time that Hillary said “Yes” to anything. <JUST KIDDING>
Seriously, did you know that there is a little article in the United States Constitution prohibits H. Clinton from becoming the next Secretary of State?
From Article I Section 6:
No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.
What the heck are “Emoluments”?
Article 1 Section 6 is known as the emoluments clause. (”Emoluments” means things like salaries.) It says that no member of Congress, during the term for which he was elected, shall be named to any office “the emoluments whereof shall have been increased during his term.” This applies, we’re advised, whether the member actually voted on the raises or not.
During Hillary Clinton’s current term in the Senate, cabinet salaries were increased from $186,600 to $191,300. This situation has arisen before, but I’ll leave it up to you to research that case.
Do you think this will be contested?
Then again, there is also that ‘conflict of interest’ situation with hubby, Bill Clinton and the foreign donors of his foundation and library. Bill’s financial records will definitely be scrutinized. Hopefully this has been done in the vetting process otherwise President Barack Obama will have to answer to the public and his adversaries.
God Bless
