YouTube Rejects McCain Campaign Request

Filed Under: Politics, Social Networking    by: Faith Sloan

By Jason Lee Miller – Thu, 10/16/2008 – 4:42pm.

“Earlier this week, general counsel for the McCain campaign petitioned YouTube to give special treatment to political ads scrubbed from the site because of DMCA take down notices. General counsel for YouTube roundly rejected that request.

Previously on the Internet, the campaign’s general counsel, Trevor Potter, sent a letter to YouTube asking the video site to speed up the reinstatement process kicked off by counter-notices to the take down notices by carefully scrutinizing campaign ads via legal review and determining whether the videos were protected under fair use.”

No SPECIAL TREATMENT!

Peer-To-Peer Lending Sites and 1 Charity Lending Site

Filed Under: Charity, Finance and Economy, Social Networking    by: Faith Sloan

I was reading this NY Times blog article on peer-to-peer lending at

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/16/is-peer-to-peer-lending-working-for-you/#comment-59103

Yes, I know this article/discussion is referencing ‘peer-to-peer’ lending. But an excellent example of a successful and meaningful lending site is kiva.org.

There are hundreds of thousands of folks like you and I who provide loans to individuals, groups, and entrepreneurs in countries such as South Africa, India, Dominican Republic, etc to “lift them out of poverty”. What joy!

We are not rewarded financially with our loans. The cash goes to kiva who is a non-profit organization which sends the money to micro-financing institutions in various countries who in turn lend the money locally.

Months ago, there were always hundreds of people awaiting financing. Kiva held the payback until all funds were paid back. But since Kiva made the decision to pay the lenders back as the money came in, many of us simply ‘recycle, if you will, the cash right back in to finance others. The result of this has been a shortage of folks seeking cash, but they are working on remedying this ‘good problem’. In the past month, there were only 4-5 folks awaiting funding.

I just took another look at the site and there are 137 awaiting funding so it appears that they have found a solution.

I do not receive any financial compensation for promoting kiva.org. What I do receive is music emanating from my heart and yes, it feels wonderful.

Faith ‘Rooney’: Who Says Happy Holidays?

Filed Under: Ramblings    by: Faith Sloan

You know what burns my neck? WHAT, FAITH!!!?

Those who admonish most who recognizes Christmas as the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. They would prefer that we say Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas both privately and publicly. There are also some who choose to protest in this regards or write to key media outlets and corporate entities with their demands for us to cease and desist use of this term … Christmas.

My take on it is that since Christmas IS the holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, those who do not believe in Christ or Christmas should simply not celebrate Christmas. Just treat it as if it just another day. No one will probably get upset at you for that ‘act’ of defiance. As a matter of fact, it most likely will go unnoticed.

Keep your political correctness in your own backyard.

What If McCain and Barack Backgrounds Were Reversed?

Filed Under: Politics    by: Faith Sloan

From Letters to the Editors @ Fort Worth Star-Telegram -

EDITED OUT the phrase about racism (Faith R. Sloan)

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class? What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said “I do” to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not  only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard? What if Obama were a member of the “Keating 5″? What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

The Shameful A”Bomb”ination Spewing From Some McCain’s Supporters

Filed Under: Politics    by: Faith Sloan

Things are heating up on the campaign front. The McCain office has ads out right now and Palin, too in terms of Obama’s past ties with a former political activist/radical turned educator, William Ayers.

In my opinion and from my observations, this does nothing but fuel the fodder of the hate mongers. The accusations are now freely flowing with McCain’s supporters denouncing Obama as an ‘Arab,’ a ‘Muslim’, a ‘terrorist’, a ‘terrorist sympathizer’, one who doesn’t ‘support the troops’, a ‘socialist’, an ‘enemy of the state’ ‘THAT ONE’, and calling for the death of Obama. This is not only bad for the campaign but is really scarey in what it can do to the United States

What is wrong with people. I don’t believe McCain supports this type of venemous diatribe but it is unfortunate that the “racist ones” who are bitter and frightened are now coming to the forefront. Should we fear for Obama’s life?

Stay tuned for the Reverend Wright noise coming soon from a Republican rally near you. Pastor Hagee’s violent rhetoric is much worst than Reverend Wright’s. But I say, how many of you agree with your pastor, your friends, etc assertions and opinions?
